Why is Banff National Park’s Moraine Lake Blue?

Posted on October 7, 2011January 8, 2014 by Billy Banff

CALGARY, ALBERTA – Canada Moraine Lake is situated in Banff National Park within the majestic Canadian Rockies and is a mere 14 kilometres outside the Lake Louise Village of Alberta, Canada.

Specifically, it is positioned in the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Moraine Lake is glacially fed and only reaches its crest during mid to late June. Once it is full, it produces a clear blue reflection with the color made possible by the refraction of light off the lake’s rock flour deposits.

If you want to know more of what to do, see and enjoy in the Canadian Rockies, go to Canadian Rockies now.
