Hike Moraine Lake in the Canadian Rockies

Posted on October 7, 2011February 13, 2014 by Billy Banff

Where Else Have You Seen the Picture-perfect Charm of Moraine Lake?

CALGARY, ALBERTA – Canada – The area around Moraine Lake offers various hiking and walking trails. Be careful though because there are times when certain areas are restricted due to the presence of grizzly bears.

The easiest trail to hike within the Rocky Mountains is the Rockpile Trail. Believe it or not, the view from atop the Rockpile is one of the most popular and commonly photographed locations in Canada. Specifically, this view of Moraine Lake has appeared in a slew of places such as: the reverse side of the 1969 and 1979 Canadian $20 bill; on one of the major preview images for Android (Google’s operating system); on print advertisements for Bernard Callebaut; on one of the backgrounds on the Blackberry Pearl as well as the Palm Pre; on one of the backgrounds in the “Canada” series of Windows 7; and the October 13, 2009 Bing homepage.
