5 Eco-Friendly Ways to Entertain Your Kids

Eco-Friendly Ways to Entertain Your Kids in Banff, Alberta

There are so many things that can get in the way of your kids getting out of the house and enjoying some good old-fashioned eco-friendly activities. Put away the computer games, turn off the TV. Here are 5 tips to help you out.

1. Grow a Garden

This is something that has traditionally been an adult pastime to relax but what better way to teach your kids about the environment than by sharing a hobby outdoors with them. Gardening is practical, cheap, eco-friendly and a bond you can share with your kids for a long time. Plant the seeds.

2. Get Crafty

Look around your house. There are so many cereal boxes, bits of wrapping paper, grocery bags and so much more than can be turned into decorative crafts. Not only will you be helping the environment by re-using these second hand goods but you will also be teaching your kids to be creative instead of sitting in front of a box. Also it doesn’t matter if you live in a country townhouse or a city flat.

3. Take a Hike

Exercise used to be something that was simply done and not organized. Unfortunately, there are so many distractions these days that it is becoming a lost art. Taking a hike and seeing some of the beauty of the world around you is good for the wallet, body and the soul.

4. Cycle More

There are few things more enjoyable than a cycle on a pleasant day. If you are popping over to the grandparents for a visit, or even to the shops, why not take the kids bikes and cycle. It is great fun and great exercise.

5. Spontaneity

If the TV is on, everybody is bored and looking for something to do – think outside the box. There are so many things going on around every town, you just have to search them out. Even a failed adventure is better than no adventure!
